Calder: Rêver en équilibre

Alexander Calder / Fondation Louis Vuitton - Paris / Frank Gehry

2026

Calder: Rêver en équilibre brings together more than 300 works by Alexander Calder at the Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris, marking a hundred years since he arrived in the city in 1926. It opens with the Cirque Calder (1926–31), his tiny wire circus, then moves through suspended mobiles in black, red, grey and white, monumental sculptures such as Five Swords (1976), a maquette of the Mercury Fountain (1937) and some fifty handmade jewels, many made for his wife Louisa. For the first time the Fondation has placed works outdoors: two monumental pieces, one black and one red, stand on the lawn beside Frank Gehry’s glass sails. These photographs follow that dialogue between Calder’s weightless balance and Gehry’s architecture.
